Niagara Falls Weekend Road Trip: Pakistani Muslim Family Guide

Humera Naeem By Humera Naeem · · 1 min read

Last summer we drove from Maryland to Niagara Falls with our two children. It is a 7-hour drive — manageable with the right preparation. And it is absolutely worth it.

The Drive

About 7 hours through Pennsylvania. We stop at rest stops for Fajr prayer — pack your prayer rug in the front seat. Buffalo, NY has a significant Muslim community and halal restaurants — perfect lunch stop one hour from Niagara.

Halal Food at Niagara Falls

  • Buffalo, NY: Excellent halal options including Pakistani and Middle Eastern restaurants
  • Niagara Falls, NY: Some halal-certified options — check Zabihah.com before arrival

Best Activities for Pakistani Families

  • Maid of the Mist boat ride — wear the poncho, you will get wet, and kids LOVE it
  • Cave of the Winds — walking near the base of the falls, incredible
  • Niagara Falls State Park free walks and viewpoints
  • Goat Island — peaceful picnic spot, perfect for iftar if visiting during Ramadan

Budget Tips

  • Stay in Buffalo rather than at Niagara Falls — much cheaper, 30-minute drive
  • Many viewpoints are FREE — you do not have to pay for everything
  • Pack lunches — waterfront dining is overpriced

SubhanAllah. The natural world makes us feel small and grateful. ☕
